No-Tech Solutions
As far back as 2006, the British Medical Association (BMA) called for more emphasis on: hand washing (the single most important intervention in infection control); more “touch-free” taps; more intelligent prescribing of antibiotics; and discarding functionless clothing such as neckties (with are rarely cleaned, yet worn daily). The global pandemic has renewed a call to action in following these recommendations.
Electrostatic Disinfectant Spray Foggers
Consisting of a backpack style disinfectant chamber and a spraying hose, this device relies on electrostatic technology in the spray nozzle to wrap the spray around the surfaces it is sprayed on, increasing the accuracy of coverage while wasting less of the disinfectant solution.
Antimicrobial Coatings
The Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin has developed a novel silver and ruthenium-based antimicrobial coating which depolarizes biological membranes and causes cell lysis. Although its properties behave similarly to those of bleach, this coating is self-regenerating.
Germ Zapping Robots
Xenex Disinfection Services “LightStrike Germ-Zapping” robot is designed to roam through hospital and hotel rooms. By using a xenon light column that emerges from its base, it annihilates germs at a molecular level, complementing the effectiveness of manual cleaning practices.
Reducing Pathogens One Shoe At A Time
Green Earth Medical Solutions have developed a technology that kills germs on the bottom of shoes by combining UVC light and ozone to sanitize shoes. In about six seconds, the device can eliminate approximately 99.9 percent of any existing pathogens. According to the CDC, healthcare acquired infections (HAL’s) cause about 100,000 deaths every year.
